Weekly Update 10/26/06

Good afternoon,

Prayer Requests...let's take time each day to pray for:

Alan McWhorter - son of Monty and Beverly McWhorter. More good news regarding Alan! One and a half years later and after much prayer from so many, the doctors are now planning to remove the last of the tumor from Alan's stomach and esophagus. Please be in prayer for Alan, his family and the doctors as they prepare for this surgery that doctors once said could not be done.
Alan Greaves - son of Richard and Helen Greaves. Please keep Alan and his family in prayer. I do not have a recent update.
June Helm - a member of FBC Firebaugh has cancer and it is spreading to her bones. Keep June and her husband, Tommy, in your prayers.
Ron Climer - Ron saw his surgeon earlier this week. Another surgery is needed to remove the plate and tops of the screws that are in his pelvis. Surgery is set for December 11.
Colin Clark - grandson of Linda Clark, CSBC Women's Ministry Director. Baby Colin had surgery last Monday morning. Please pray for Colin as he recovers, his parents and extended family.
Jason Mahill - Jason works with youth in the Orange Cove area. Recently a coach for the youth football league was found to be scamming money raised by the youth for their sports equipment, etc. Please pray for this group of youth, their families and the community as they try to raise funds again for sports equipment. Pray for Jason as he continues to build relationships in this area.

The Gospel, Larry Bubb Plus X-Box 360....

Combine a parking lot sale, a youth games tournament, some special events, specific targets, with prayer, advertizing and great messages from evangelist Larry Bubb, and you end up praising the Lord for twenty-one professions of faith. First Baptist Church of Oakhurst reached out to children with a free hot dog meal for Kid's night. Then they invited the youth to a pizza-bash for Youth Ralley night. Finally, they hosted for the community a free pasta night celebration.

"At first it looked like we might have a scheduling conflict" said pastor Richard Cavoretto. "But we realized the parking lot sale was an excellent way to get people onto the property and give them invitations to the special events of the week." "One of our college students came up with the idea of reaching out to the kids who don't tend to be very athletic. He dreamed of having a Games Tournament." That was Matt Stephens, a member of Harry Williams' evangelism team at First Baptist. Yes - the same Harry Williams who retired as our State Evangelism Director. Matt planned for a series of video and other games where youths could compete for the grand prize -- an X-Box-360. There were some ipods and other prizes for every contestant. Harry Williams worked with Larry Bubb to design the services. And Larry Bubb even came early so he could mingle with the youth at the tournament.

Pastor Cavoretto said, "Matt Stephens was thinking ahead and made plans for future events to maintain contact with the kids. These kids really connected with Larry Bubb, just as Harry thought they would. The kids are asking me when we can have Larry back."

Annual Church Profiles
ACP's were mailed to churches this past week. Please complete the form and return to CSBC as soon as possible. Why is completing the ACP form important? The information that your church gives on the ACP is used to determine needs. Your church is corporation. As such you are required to file an annual report. Submitting an ACP fulfills this requirement By filing you are showing you are a cooperating Southern Baptist church who is included under the CSBC umbrella tax exemption status for active members.
