Disaster Relief Update/Needs - 11/7/07

This update comes from Cathy Glover:

Hi Everyone:

We several needs right now for Disaster Relief:

  1. We need 10 men to e-mail or call in and let me know if they can help set up our large tent and a kitchen at the California Southern Baptist Convention at the Russian Baptist Church at 1000 Sacramento Ave., West Sacramento on Tuesday, Nov. 13th (Time to be announced later). Chuck Erikson and Stretch Krege will be Blue Capping this event. Then those same 10 men will be needed to breakdown the tent and kitchen on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 14th.
  2. We need 10 men or women to call or e-mail in to let me know if they can help cook the meal on Wednesday at Convention at the Disaster Relief Kitchen at the Russian Baptist Church.
  3. We need Clean-up volunteers who are available to help clean up in So. California to volunteer to serve during the weekdays for a week at a time. All the weekend timeslots are full right now. Please e-mail our off-site Volunteer Coordinator, Renee McKinley, at c-r.mckinley@sbcglobal.net and let her know your full name(s), contact nos., and availability dates. If you have contact with untrained volunteers they can e-mail in, but they need to put in the e-mail that they are untrained in So. Baptist Disaster Relief, so we can place them appropriately.
  4. If you have access to heavy equipment, like Bobcats, Dumptrucks, etc. please e-mail or call in to me. Any loaned equipment or donations of equipment would be greatly appreciated.

Update on the CSBC Disaster Relief Efforts in So. California:

All Feeding Units are closing as of Friday, Nov. 2nd. Clean-up operations are going well. They are cleaning up an average of 4 home sites a day. Only San Diego County is moving forward with the clean-up process. No other county is even close to starting the clean-up process. Estimates look to be at a month from now for the counties to begin the clean-up process. Please keep the teams and homeowners in your prayers.

CA Fires - Volunteers Needed

This update is from Don Hargis' office:

We are now moving from “standby” to “go.” We need more than 500 trained and untrained disaster relief volunteers to make a Christian ministry statement by participating in a massive day of clean-up at an Indian Reservation in LaJolla. We need as many DR Chaplains as possible to be an active part of this special day of deployment. Even if you cannot help any other day, we need you on Saturday, Nov. 3.

Obviously, we need as many as possible to continue the clean-up ministry through the following week. This is coming as a special request by our government and CSBC.

838 Hanson Lane
Ramona, CA 92065
(760) 789-2732

Other Information:
  • For this deployment the work will primarily be cleanup at burned sites, removing debris, collecting salvage, etc. It may involve lifting materials, shovel work and work with heavy equipment. Conditions will be dirty and hot. Volunteers must not have physical limitations or medical conditions that would be a concern for the demands of the work.
  • Volunteers are on their own for any expenses they may incur and must have their own insurance.

If you can participate on Saturday or through the following week, please contact Renee at c-r.mckinley@sbcglobal.net ASAP.
