Cruising for Jesus Christian Car Show

Cruising for Jesus is a Reedley congregation that uses car shows as a platform to communicate Christ with broad audiences in cities througout the Central California. Cruising for Jesus is a new partner congregation with Mid-Valley Association. Today's car show was on Cruising's home turf. Thousands of people came throughout the day to see show quality cars, motorcycles, and even bicycles. Visitors also found good food, live Christian music (KLUV was there), and a community connection. Horacio Aleman, the lead Cruiser, is pastor.

This is the custom-painted graphic painted on the rear fender of Ron Climer's 2005 Harley Davidson. His motorcycle has given Ron countless opporunities to connect people to Christ.

Pastor Horacio Aleman of Cruising for Jesus

Ron Climer, his motorcycle, and even his leather jacket all tell the story of Jesus.

Valley Springs Celebrates First Year

Valley Springs Community Church celebrated its one-year anniversary today. They began one year ago, meeting at Woodward Park Baptist Church. They have since outgrown that facility, and they are now meeting at Garfield Elementary School in Clovis at the corner of Peach and Nees. Pastor David Mortiz, pictured second from left, reminded the church of its guiding vision, to connect the Fil-Am community in Fresno/Clovis to Christ. He told the congregation that its mission is to "bring people in, build them up, and send them out." Mid-Valley churches are partners in this new church through their Association and Cooperative Program gifts.

Powerful Quotes from The Willow Creek Leadership Summit

Thoughts from the Leadership Summit, 2007

Here are a few thoughts from some of the speakers.

Carly Fiorina:

"Everyone is afraid of something. Every time you overcome, you are stronger."

"Leadership is about unlocking potential in others."

"Every time someone took a chance on me, it motivated me."

"There is a gift in everything if we will see it."

"Innovation means taking risks."

- Carly Fiorina at the Willow Creek Leadership Summit, 2007 (in an interview with Bill Hybels)

Floyd Flake:

" ... moving people beyond their self-serving motives." (When describing one of the goals of leadership)

"You don't need a unanimous vote, but you need a majority support."

- Floyd Flake at the Willow Creek Leadership Summit, 2007

Marcus Buckingham:

"Build on strengths and manage around weaknesses."

"You cannot understand excellence by studying bad examples." (paraphrased)

"What percentage of a typical day do you spend playing to your strengths?"

Marcus Buckingham at the Willow Creek Leadership Summit, 2007

John Ortberg:

Ortberg told this joke:

Man to wife: When I think about facing (any challenge), my palms get sweaty.

A little while later, same man to wife: When I think about (same challenge), my mouth gets dry.

Wife: Why don't you just lick your palms?

He spoke about a leader's greatest fear. "The greatest fear is not what can happen to us, but what can happen in us."

From Esther, he drew out this question: "Why have you been brought to this place in your life?"

he noted several examples, from Esther of the difference between one's mission and one's shadow mission which is just a click or two off of the real mission, but keeps us from fulfilling it.

John Ortberg at the Willow Creek Leadership Summit, 2007

IMB Missionaries Speak at FSBC Selma

Mark Bennett and his family spoke to the FSBC Selma congregation today (8/5/07). Mark and Sharon are native of New Mexico. Mark is the strategy coordinator in the Chiba District of Tokyo. His role is to build as many bridges as necessary to make sure each of the 2.2 million people in the Chiba District have a chance to hear and respond to the story of Jesus. How? Mark is committed to sharing Jesus "with anyone, anywhere, anytime." Sharon and their three boys also spoke about the connections they make with people locally. Their boys are John Mark (10), Jonathan (8), and John Luke (6). Mark is the son of Joan Esrey, a member of FSBC Selma. The Bennetts are supported solely by the mission offerings given by Mid-Valley churches and churches throughout North America.
