Missional - New Word...Very Old Idea

Look for this word.

My definition of a missional church: A church where the Great Commission (making disciples) and the Great Commandment (loving God and loving people) permeates every level of church existence, from its very identity (being) to its practices (doing). What does this mean in practice? Different churches live it out different ways.

Mike Cogland of NAMB's Center for Missional Research views Missional as a mindset or a lens through which we should see: Missional. It’s the new buzzword for many of today’s church leaders. Over the last two years, the term has grown in popularity and has been used in various contexts. Even though missional is the buzzword of the day, the concept has been around much longer. Actually, it has been around for centuries. Missionaries learned long ago that to reach a people group for Christ, they would need to understand their culture. By understanding the natives' beliefs, traditions, and values, they could eat, drink and talk like them. Then they could share the love of Christ within the context of the natives’ culture. Missional leaders and churches are ones that are viewing the world through missional lenses; they are missionaries—understanding the culture, leading biblically faithful and culturally relevant churches, and thinking in missionary ways about their contexts.

Fresno Korean Baptist Church - English Ministry Update

This comes from Noel Price, leader of the English Ministry (ISI) at

ISI Ministries (from "iron sharpens iron", Proverbs 27:17) is
the English language ministry of Fresno Korean Baptist Church.
We were founded in November of 2003 by my former student Eugene
Park, and Myeong Lee (who is now a student at GGBTS). The Pastor
of the church is Rev. Chang Hyon Yoo. I am considered the leader
of the English Ministry (ISI Ministries) and I preach on Sundays
in our English service, and I teach the Bible Study on Wednesday
nights. Our Sunday service is at 9:15 AM and our Wed. Bible Study
is at 8 PM. We are a multicultural, Bible-centered ministry focused
on equipping people to apply God's Word to everyday life. Most
of our attenders are between 16-30, with most being in college.
We are a diverse group with people from all backgrounds including
Chinese, Korean, Filipino, Caucasian, etc. On Wednesday nights
we've been averaging between 20-25 people, and on Sundays we usually
have 12-15.

I have attached a few photos: a congregation photo from our
2nd Anniversary last November, a photo of some of our members wearing
our ISI Ministries shirts at a Fast last summer, a photo of our
Praise Team, and a photo of our Bible Study group taken in June.
Hopefully it helps give you a feel for what our ministry is like.

Anyway, I really want people to know that we exist, and if they know
of any young adults who would like to be part of helping get a new
ministry going, with an emphasis on spiritual growth and life
application of God's Word.... we always love to meet new people...

Thanks again for your interest in our ministry at FKBC!

yours in Christ,
Noel Price

Links

Links are the esssence of networking - whet the he they are hyper links, human links, or holy links (spiritual disciplines that bring us into the presence of God).

I just thought I'd throw that in for what it is worth because some links can be all three at the same time.

Never discount the importance of links and cross links.
